Cheryl Renella
The Visionary of Oak Street: A Legacy in Every Arch

A lifelong calling: “While most were still navigating the halls of high school, I was already mastering the foundations of my craft. Entering Cosmetology school the summer before Freshman year wasn’t just an early start, it was the beginning of a lifelong commitment. I had an innate sense that my life’s work would be defined by aesthetic precision. I could never follow a trend if it didn’t suit the client’s features especially the eyebrows! I could not create a great cut or do a professional makeup if the brows weren’t right. At the time, the brow trend was thin waxed brows; unfortunately, that trend suited no one.
My mission from the start was that I don’t follow trends; I create them!
My brow speciality was born from the realization that eyebrows are the fundamental architectural foundation of the face and all else follows. This approach treats hair removal as a work of art, leading me to create my signature tweeze-only service: Corrective Brow Shaping.
Hollywood influence
“My early training on movie sets involved designing brows, doing makeup, and hair locally and internationally (which continues to this day).
I started my journey in 1975 and opened Channing’s Studio on May 23,1980. Actually, I didn’t just open my business – I established a Gold Coast landmark that has defined Chicago’s beauty standards for decades. ”
